Raul Masu (1992) graduated in Electronic Music and Composition at the Conservatorio Bonporti in Trento, and later received a Diploma of Merit in Live Electronics and Sound and Music Computing from the Accademia Musicale Chigiana. He completed a PhD in Digital Media (audiovisual creation and interactive content) at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, program in collaboration with Universidade do Porto and the University of Texas at Austin. After his doctorate, he taught and conducted research in Thailand (KMITL, Institute of Music Science and Engineering) and China (HKUST Guangzhou, Computational Media and Arts). He is now professor of electrostatics and multimedia composition at Conservatorio Bonporti of Trento. As a composer, he has created instrumental, electronic, and multimedia works performed at festivals, conferences, and concerts in Europe and Asia, including the European project Moving Digits. In parallel, he has pursued an academic career for over ten years, publishing more than 60 papers on interactive technologies and electronic music in venues such as CHI, DIS, TEI, NIME, Organised Sound, Audio Mostly, and SMC. He is particularly active in the NIME (New Interfaces for Musical Expression) community: he co-authored its code of ethics, founded eco.nime.org (a repository for sustainable practices in interactive systems), and served as Music Chair for the 2022 edition in Auckland, New Zealand.
