Zhang Xiaofu, faculty member at the Central Conservatory of Music and distinguished professor at Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, is renowned as the most influential Chinese composer in the international electroacoustic music field and the most active cross-boundary composer in China. His diverse music outputs include those for electroacoustic, orchestra, traditional Chinese orchestral music, chamber music, ballet, theater and films. He has been commissioned by the governments and academic institutions for many times. His works, such as Nuo Ri Lang, Le Chant Intérieur, Esprit de la Montagne, Dialogue entre le Monde Différents, Visages Peint dans les Opéra de Pékin, Drifting Dharani, Yarlung Tsangpo, have been widely performed and won numerous awards both in and outside of China. He presented recitals on multiple international festivals, and released multiple collections of personal works on CDs and DVDs.
As the leading figure of electroacoustic music in China, ZHANG was the founder and the director of the Center for Electroacoustic Music of China, founder and president of the Electroacoustic Music Association of China, artistic director of MUSICACOUSTICA-BEIJING, president of MUSICACOUSTICA-BEIJING Composition Competition, president of the Chinese Section and artistic director of the International Confederation of Electroacoustic Music. He currently serves as the artistic director of MUSICACOUSTICA-HANGZHOU and the president of the MUSICACOUSTICA-HANGZHOU Composition Competition, among other positions. In 2018, Zhang received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Denny International Electroacoustic Music Competition. In 2019, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by De Montfort University. In 2023, he was honored as an Honorary Member of the International Confederation of Electroacoustic Music.
