Åke Parmerud has been a prominent figure in contemporary music and media art since the late 70’s. Initially trained as a photographer, he later studied music at university and the Göteborg Conservatory of Music.

His vast portfolio encompasses electro-acoustic and instrumental music, spanning dance, film, interactive art, multi-media, theatre, and video. Early acclaim came when “Proximities” won first prize at the 1978 Bourges International Electroacoustic Music Festival in France. He's since garnered 17 international and 3 major Swedish prizes. He's received the Swedish "grammy" award for Best Classical Album twice and represented Swedish Radio at The Prix Italia twice. Commissions from major international institutions and presentations of his works are global. Notably, "Grains of Voices" was performed at the U.N. in New York on United Nations Day. His contributions to music led to his 1998 induction into The Swedish Royal Academy of Music.

Parmerud is also a stage performer, frequently touring in Europe, North and South America, often employing interactive instruments. He collaborated with Anders Blomqvist in the late 80’s, with their performances, featuring fireworks, capturing attention across Europe.

Over the past decade, he's been an innovative sound and software designer for interactive audio/visual installations and performances. Works such as “The Fire Inside” and “Lost Angel” have been showcased internationally. He's collaborated with renowned international artists, notably the Danish “art team” Boxiganga Teater on interactive video installations and live performance techniques. Furthermore, he joined Canadian choreographer Pierre-Paul Savoi and since 2002, has collaborated with Olle Niklasson at AudioTechture, a company that won the Red Dot design award in 2015.

Recently, Parmerud's focus has been on audio design, lecturing globally, and developing software for 3D sound composition.
